Enjoy some shopping/site-seeing/eating in Brussels

This web-app is designed to propose places for you to visit, mainly stores, some touristic spots, and restaurants. All proposed places are located around de Brouckère and Gare Central metro stations, and should be at walking distance from each other. Hence, there should be no need to take the metro, the bus, or a car to go from a place to another.

Getting started

Once you open the app, no place is marked on the map yet. To start using the app, first click on "Next place": a place is displayed on the map, as well as its name and address on the top of the screen. To see the route from your current location to the place, click on "Show directions"; this will draw a route on the map on "WALKING" mode. Once you cliked on "Next place", click on either "I might visit this place" if you would visit the place and whish to save it in your favorites, or click on "I don't want to visit this place" otherwise. You can then click on "Next place" again, etc.

Articifial Intelligence

Believe it or not, but as you start picking places, an AI system is learning which places you tend to like, and uses its knowledge to propose new places to you. It probably will be proposing very random places to you at first, and sometimes the same places will be proposed multiple times, but eventually, you should see improvements in its recommendations.

Geolocation

This web-app uses your current geolocation (if you allow it) to suggest a place to visit. If no geolocation is available, it assumes that your current location is the last place you liked. Note that knowing your current location is needed mainly to show you the route from your position to the place you want to visit.

Featured places

The places suggested by this app do not consist in an exhaustive list of all shops, restaurants and attractions in Brussels, far from it! Each place is a restaurant or shop that I particularly like and went to several times; you could say that this app suggests some of my personally favorite places :). This application is part of my PhD thesis project; I have not been payed by any of the places's owners to have their shop be on the list of places suggested by my app. If, however, there is a specific shop, restaurant, site-seeing spot... etc. that you love and would like to see featured in this application, feel free to send me an email at boredinthecitycontact@gmail.com.

Personal data and cookies

This website does not display ads, does not track you and does not collect personal data (location data is optional and forgotten as soon as a place is shown to you). No tracking cookie is used. A small cookie is used to remember across visits which places have already been shown to you, so that you don't constantly get the same places proposed. This website still works with cookies disabled. A better web, without cookies to accept or ads, is possible :-) .
